    Hi everyone!

Just found this forum -- I'm very excited with all of the info here!

A little background on me... was diagnosed with type 1 about 4 years ago (my mother has type 2), but so far it hasn't really affected anything I've wanted to do. I love to be active and hit the gym 4-5 times a week to stay in shape and keep my circulation going well.

I haven't had any complications until recently: I caught a virus and that, in turn, knocked my diabetes out of whack. My numbers were through the roof and my insulin wasn't working... ended up in the hospital severely dehydrated and found my blood was a disaster (low potassium, low bicarbs, ph off, and high glucose). Luckily, they treated me for it and am feeling MUCH better, though not 100%. But it was a big scare that made me realize how serious this disease really can be.

To that effect, I've recently been looking into an insulin pump (as you'll see by my other post) with the hope of better control, more freedom and less "needle burnout". I hope to learn a lot from everyone so that I can have a long, healthy life!

And that, folks, is my very long winded hello...thanks for having me!

    Hi everyone!

Hi Karen1976, welcome to this forum. I don't post a lot but read almost everything. I found some great advise here and hope you do too.
