    Re:working out and having diabetes

I find that the Red Bull Sugarless is a source of energy to get me through the day. I have D2 but am just monitoring my blood sugar and working with diet.
I have found that Red Bull and very low carb protein bars seem to be a good combination for me during the day. I have had negative reaction to sugarless RockStar.
I have not experienced any negative reactions to Reb Bull. I would like to hear from others who are trying to work their diabetes in a similar way or not.B)

    Hi Edugeek, welcome!

I work out regularely and find that by simply eating a light breakfast before going to the gym, or having some juice before, I am fine! I always have a protein shake after my workouts -- this is to help repair the muscles I have just worked out, and also serves as my mid-morning snack.

I'll also have protein bars or protein cookies -- but for those of you who are new to this, be sure to read the package! You want to choose the bar/cookie that has the highest amount of protein and the lowest amount of fat... and, from experience, the fattiest ones are always the tastiest, so be aware of what you're eating. (The Trioplex Chocolate Chip cookies are yummy, I have some now: 5g of fat, 11 carbs from sugar, and 10 g of protein per cookie!)

I'm a bit of a health geek so I shy away from carbonated/caffienated products, thus I don't drink Red Bull or cola. Plus, Red Bull is high in Sodium (290mg), so that and the carbonation will cause me some major bloating! :S

Yeah. I'm not even so sure Red Bull is that healthy for anyone at all (seen the amount of caffeine)

Don't any of you work? The whole diabetes thing is appalling, and some of you need to get a life! I have absolutely had it when I get home at night. I am up at six, home at 5.30 when I have to feed 2 people with diabetes, get ready for the next day, laundry etc and then pick my partner up at 7 pm. Despite my cholesterol being A1 my blood sugars are up to 12-16. I am tired of lectures, I have to earn a living to keep a roof over my head. There are not enough hours in the day to obsess over it!!!

    Wow, Linith.

First off, YES we work -- I have a successful career, in fact! And second, most of us have families and responsibilities. Third, you are not the only one in the situation of being sick of this... so lighten up!

There is actually a lot of great info and support on this board, and many people who are new to the disease and are trying to understand it. I don't think any one is obsessing. And many of us have made friends here, as well.

I am sure it is difficult for you having to deal with two diabetics and all of the other trials that life brings. There are two diabetics in my family, as well, among other things. And, contrary to what you may think, our lives do not revolove around the disease -- it is instead simply a part of our lives.

Truthfully, I'm not too sure why you are here on the forum if you think we all need to get a life, get a job, and obsess too much. If you are looking for support, I personally think that you are going about it in the wrong way.

I agree with every word karen said.

Don't go all jumping on everyone. I don't even trully understand the point of your post, hence it has nothing to do with the topic, which is, i believe, about working out. All but name a few diabetics have normal lives, they go to work, they go to school or university and they keep up with their diabetes. If you are getting tired and fed up with it then you need to ask questions, look for support. There are more than enough people with experience that can help you overcome the problem.

Hey Linith! I'm new here... just read your post... you sound quite stressed with your long hours and diabetes...

If you're willing to push yourself, then there's good news. 24 hours in a day is long enough to juggle light food, a little stretch and some quality time to yourself. I don't know how you plan your day, but substituting walks for the car, or even managing a 20 minute treadmill a day can do wonders for you and your family. finding an exercise partner makes exercising fun and pushes you to commit (In my case, I chase my husband!)

Planning your menu well in advance for the week can take the stress off you for diabetic cooking... But it all starts in your head. If you think it can be done and its no big deal, life's gonna look good.. All the best to you.
