    Pet Peeves

At the beginning, I was avoiding to tell people with whom I was having a meal that I have diabetes and was trying to stick to my diet without them noticing too much. Now, I don't hesitate and tell as anyway, I have pills to take with the first bite of the meal. The first question is always: Are you on insulin? When I say yes, insulin and pills, I get that *so sorry* look as of course, they think I am much sicker if I take insulin!!!!!!!! Even people with diabetes think that way. I hate that look. Next time I get that look, I don't know what I'll do. Offer them to share my shot perhaps

My brother often gets the looks when he gives a needle..so sometimes he pretends like he is shooting herion or something...I know thats REALLY bad but its also funny. The average person is so ignorant!

I sometimes get those looks when I tell people i am on a pump. They always say "oh I guess your diabetes is really bad eh?" and then I have to go into a story about how I like it better and its quite common and its just another way of managing my diabetes.

I think that for the average person having a shot so often looks both wired and pitiful.
More over - I bet that this is why we get that look, rather than having the disease itself... :?

I wonder, one thing - what is your look when you're looking at a disabled person?... I bet he feels the same.
