New Type 1 in the house!

    Hello All,

My name is Julie and I am from Ajax Ontario, Canada.

I have already posted a hello on another area of this site. I got excited and posted before I saw this section.

Anyways I am a student at York University in Toronto currently studying kinesiology. I have had T1 for 15 years. No complications of any kind..thank god...and sometimes find it very hard to be motivated and stay on top of everything all the time. Anyone else had "diabetes burn out" yet? Nothing too serious, at least not with me..I was just rambling there.

I am pretty active and dont let it hold me back in any way.
I am glad to have found this website and think it will be fun and informative to read and post messages.

I'm sure I will have lots of questions and lots of answers to post. THanks for welcoming me in!!
    Julie

    Hi Julie,

    Welcome to our forum.
Already asked you a question before welcoming you :-), so I guess we're even on the welcome :-).

    Say, what exactly is Kinesiology?

    Thanks so much Anita.

Kinesiology is the study of human movement. It really emcompasses a wide variety of courses. For example this term I am taking biomechanics, exercise physiology, nutrition, and pyschology of health and chronic diseases. As you can see a wide range of topics.

Glad to have found a forum about diabetes!

    Welcome Julie,
We're almost neighbors...let's see... about 5 hours down the highway 401.

Diabetes burn-out...yes, even though type 2, it does happen!!

With your studies, you probably are very current to what's new in diabetes researches? Love your sig line: Insulin is Not a cure!!

    Thanks Gemstone!
Oh yeah burnout...sometimes I feel like F*@k it I DONT CARE anymore..it just gets so annoying..there is no end in sight..no vacation..no do these treatments and then you're fine. I think thats what people dont understand there is never a break, even from your thoughts. I think about it all the time. What to eat,how many carbs? how many calories? what's my bg and why? what insulin to give? can I exercise now or should I wait? on and on and on the thoughts go.

Imagine all the extra thought time you would have if you didnt have diabetes? Really...what would you think about?

I find though that having other diabetics to vent to is the best thing there is. I know my boyfriend tries to understand and I'm not saying its horrible and I cant deal with it...its just sometimes he doesnt get the frusteration and annoyance that goes along with it and I'm glad he doesnt know what its like. However that also makes it hard for him to say the things I want to hear.

As for the signiture..I cant take all the credit..I stole if from a friend who had it as their MSN sign-on. But its true...meds and insulin are not a cure they are just a bandaid solution.

Just wanted to let you know I admire your dedication to your regime. I fall by the wayside far too often and its great to hear about people who dont (well at least not as often as I do) and are in control of their life!

Don't admire my *dedication*, it's too much of a weight on my shoulders. I fall as often as you do probably but it doesn'T last very long... I mean, like yesterday, we had a pizza for supper... but this morning I am back on track.

Also, our lives are not the same. I am a mom at home so I have to cook for the family.... I want my family to eat as healthy as possible so they can avoid the unavoidable for as long as possible. Of course I can't avoid all when they eat out with friends but when here, they have healthy meals most of the time.

Yes, it's in our minds 100% of the time so that's not dedication, it's not a choice at all. It does feel good to talk about it and to exchange thoughs. I find that most people are avoiding the though and really don't care... take their 2 or 3 little pills and take their bg once a week if at all.

I'll start another thread on pet peeves...
