diabetes pumps
hello all!
It's been a while since I first saw the insuling pumps around- the promise was almost sci-fi: no more insulin shots, just tell the pump how many carbs you're eating, etc.
These days, you still get all these amazing diabetes gadgets, such as a non-intrusive device that tests the sugar levels using light only (amazing), and so on.
is there any company that interconnect these two devices- ie, creates a full "turnkey" device that measures your blood sugar levels, and automatically tells the insulin pump how much insulin to release based on its tests?
i mean, in a sense, this will be like having a new artificial pancreas
Interested if you know about something like that.

I hope someone here can jump in and help you. I don't know a thing about pumps.

re:diabetes pumps
There is this GlucoWatch thing and of course there're pumps.
Never heard of a combination, though the idea is superb.
I've tried to look for something like it on Google but couldn't find it.
I think that someone that will take this glove you've thrown might find it as a very interesting opportunity ;-)

re:diabetes pumps
Hello Aviv,
I know you posted this awhile ago but the I just wanted to let you know I am on a pump and have been for 5 years now and I could not live without it. I couldnt get long lasting insulin to work for me so this device has been a god sent. Plus you can what and when ever you want.
There are a few companies that offer pumps..I am not sure about your exactly about your country but I know there is one company called minimed that offers a pump and continous glucose monitor. its alot of hardware to have on your body at one time but if you can stand it its amazing. Its most useful to use the glucose monitor only once in awhile to get an idea of how well your basal doses are working and if you might need to adjust your insulin to carb ratios or your insulin to bg ratio (correction dose)
Here is the website if you want to take a look at it.
http://www.minimed.ca/
its the canadian site but you should be able to ge the info that you need.
This site also lets you compare the different pumps and companies.

Hope all this helps you. The pump isnt for everyone. Some people love it and others hate it. If you are already under tight control you may not want or need a pump. If you want more flexibility then you might want to try it. However just be warned that with flexibility sometimes you can open pandorars box. When I went on I gained 10 pounds because you can eat what ever you want and when ever you want.
Anyways have fun looking into it!

My Dr. said that he thought this was still a few years off. Has anyone heard any different? I think that it would be an AMAZING product!

Re:diabetes pumps
This pump with continued glucose readings is already available. It is the minimed paradigm 522 or 722. B)
I'm thinking about going in the real time. I am already on the insulin pump and think the added benefit of the glucose monitor would be awesome.
