pumps-pros and cons

I would love some information from anyone who is using or a family member to a pump user. My daughter has just been given the go ahead to get a pump. We have many concerns: 1. She is going to be Junior in high school (important year) 2. Which one? 3. She has been excepted into a program that works with a college and absences must be kept down.:unsure:

Hi me0my and welcome to the forums.

1. The pump doesn't really interfere with school or any activities, in fact it helps. I've gotten my pump when i was in 11th grade and now i'm in university and everything's fine.
2. That depends on what kinds you can get your hands on. And how much are you expecting to spend on it. Personaly I use the Accu-Check Spirit pump and it works fine. Though Dana IIS that I used was good as well (not using it just becouse of a simple missunderstanding). Some can check your BG level as well, but that costs more. There's a new one (not sure if it's out yet) that will actually turn the pump off if your BG is low. Choose the one you find affordable and your daughter finds comfortable. Remember, you will have to change infusions, so keep in mind that some might be more pricy. Not sure how it works there.
3. Not sure what you mean by that. The pump does not require any absence at all. You can fill the cartrage of change the infussion anywhere provided you have insulin and an infusion set (did it on the beach recently)

So it's mostly a matter of comfort and price. Can't say much about paradigm pumps since i haven't used them, perhaps someone else will shed some light there.
