Kids Helping JDRF Advocate for a Cure

Hey everyone; I just finished up an internship at the JDRF and they were in the early stages of planning their 2009 Children’s Congress event.

For anyone who hasn’t heard of it, Children’s Congress organizes over a hundred children from across the country, ages 4-17 and living with type 1, in Washington, D.C to meet with members of congress. The goal is to convey to the lawmakers what life is really like for children living with type 1 diabetes.

In years past, these children have met with members, testified in front of congress, and more. It can be a great experience for the kids and can have a highly beneficial impact on congress’ overall knowledge about diabetes and the funding necessary for a cure. There is still time to apply so I definitely recommend that you look into it.

Kids Helping JDRF Advocate for a Cure

    Hello Mike,

It's a great initiative indeed. That's how we got free insulin pump parts. We (diabetics) talket to our minister in charge of health and parlament members (not sure how to call it, the dictionary doesn't give a translation for "Seimas") and wrote certain requirements and negotiated. This is still in proccess since we got only for ages under 19...

Anyway good luck and keep your ground, stay together and be clear of what you want.

Vytautas that is a beginning (a very great beginning since children are mentally more vulnerable to 'dangers') - I hope it will get you all through the phase that it will apply to all people (adults) as well. As far as I know pharmaceutical companies they are very money orientated but if a government office is willing to pick up the tab - I think that's great

In the type 1 phase of diabetes kids are helping JDRF advocate for a cure. According to the information of this forum, parents who are living with children and facing the type 1 diabetes they should have to know what are the real lifestyle of children. Because overall knowledge about diabetes will be helpful for kids. In other words we can say that children are more affective to dangers, so we should take proper cure and avoid to use insulin in the beginning phase of diabetes.I stay in LA and is always in touch with Los Angeles doctors for regular treatment.
