diabetes and cancer
my mom was dx'ed T2 about 10 years ago.
recently, she was also dx'ed with breast cancer.
I wanted to ask around here-
does anyone know about the relationship between blood suger levels and cancer? I've googled around and found some info- yet, not a lot. It appears that everybody seem to agree that under is bad, yet over is not thoroughly discussed.
My mom's reading aren't stable lately- usually high (~250 or so). She's working to stabalize it, but due to chemos and other treatments its not so easy.
I'd be very interested in any feedback or experience anyone has with the subject.
Thanks,
Aviv.

mmm...
what cancer type was it?
were there any complication to the cancer that might have this side effect?

Any kind of illness, even minor ones, can make your readings unstable. And medications such as steroids can also make them rise. I am sure the ones used for cancer can affect the body in much the same way. Good luck finding answers.

re:diabetes and cancer
Hi I had thyroid cancer and had the whole thyroid removed. I also have T1 and use an insulin pump. There did'nt seem to be a difference with having cancer and my blood sugars. It was more due to the stress of going through surgery and radiation treatments. :silly:

re:diabetes and cancer
Hi, I know this post is very old, but it caught my eye as I have a deep family history of both diabetes and cancer. I have done some research in this area and I recently found this article:
Breast Cancer and Diabetes
What other resources have you all found? Are they reliable? How do you know that something that is online is accurate?
And, by the way, I hope everything is okay!

Post edited by: troberts1976, at: 2008/06/06 13:45

There are many articles on line about this, like here (please click) but they are rather hard to read because of the professional language they are using, I think...

It is difficult to find out if something is reliable. For one thing, you might have heard infromation on the topic you are looking up online. As long as the source you heard it from is not directly connected to the one you are looking at it might be accurate.
Another thing you can do is after finding information, try to look up confirming sources that are not affiliated with the original one.

That makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the tip. I'll be sure to check out the references to make sure everything is kosher.
