    A1c and meter ??

Is there a relation between the average blood sugar level read on the meter and the result of an A1c?

In the past 2 months I dropped my average from 9.8 to 6.1mmol on my glucometer. I am not due for a A1c for another month so I am curious. Last time it was 7 so I expect that the next one will be more around 5.5 to 6??

Thank you Peter, that's exactly what I wanted to know. Of course I am aware that it's just an approximation but even then, it's encouraging.

    HbA1c vs BG

I found spreadsheet for excel that estimates your HbA1c using the Nathan formula(Average mg/dl + 86) / 33.3. The person that made this said it has been within 5% of his actual labs.
    EST HbA1c 5.88
    5% +/- 0.29
HbA1c + 5% 6.17 (lab should be in this range)
    HbA1c - 5% 5.58
I'm currently using his SS(See above) and am having my lab(HbA1c) done on the 14th of Feb. I will post how his SS compares to my actual lab work when I get it. If it is within 5%, that will be plenty close enough in my book. It won't hurt to try it. IMHO

Thank you for these links. I see my Dr. on Thursday so I will probably have new blood tests prescribed. Looking forward to see if this formula works.

I got my Lab tests today and I'm real happy with the results. I'm not sure if the cinnamon is helping, but it isn't hurting either.

    HbA1c was 8.3 mg/dl, now 5.7 mg/dl
Total Cholesterol was 163, now 152
    Triglycerides was 99, now 52
    HDL was 38, now 43
    LDL was 105, now 99

The excel spreadsheet(see earlier post) predicted an HbA1c of 5.88 and I was 5.7, so the formula was within 3% of my lab. That's close enough in my book for a general guide of how I'm doing. Nothing will replace having the doctors office do the test, but at least I won't get any surprises either.

Time for a treat, sugar-free pudding made with Hood low-carb milk. whoo-hoo!!!!!!

Great results... Bravo! Though I don't know exactly how the cholesterol translate in mmol, it's improvement anyway.

I have my script to go to the laboratory but no time yet. I'll try to get there Monday morning.

    More conversions:

To convert mmol/l of HDL or LDL cholesterol to mg/dl, multiply by 39.
To convert mg/dl of HDL or LDL cholesterol to mmol/l, divide by 39.

To convert mmol/l of triglycerides to mg/dl, multiply by 89.
To convert mg/dl of triglycerides to mmol/l, divide by 89.

To convert umol (micromoles) /l of creatinine to mg/dl, divide by 88.
To convert mg/dl of creatinine to umol/l, multiply by 88.

    Congrats!! :-)
    What a great improvement.

Funny, not sure if I've heard it on this forum or somewhere else, but it's not the first time I hear that cinnamon is helping.

So - How was the sugar-free pudding...

    DIssapointing A1c

From the average of my meter, my A1c should have been at 5.7mmol. I hoped since I made so much efforts. Well, results came out this morning with 6.7 instead. I was at 7 the previous time.

Cholesterol is perfect at Total: 117, HDL 40, LDL 63 and Trig. 71

Now I really have to find a way to avoid the liver dumps.
