Am I suffering from diabetes?
I am a 55 years old male. I have a history of type 2 diabetes running in my family. My weight is under control and I exercise regularly. Four years ago my blood sugar was 6.5 mg/dl and now I have brought it down to 6.2 mg/dl. Indian doctors do not consider me diabetic but a French doctor says I have type 2 diabetes. Can you tell me which out of this is correct? What precautions should I take, other than avoiding sugar? Is it possible to correct my sugar level through diet and exercise?

Re:Am I suffering from diabetes?
Hi Johnydiss,
this is difficult for me to say since mg/dl is an odd unit and i'm used to mmol/l (millimoles per liter)
Now if i understand correctly your glucose level is 62mg/dl (because 6.2 results in 0.3mmol/l which is the death zone).
You sugar level is a bit low, but that depends on many factors. If it's like that when in a time period of 2-3 hours you didn't do much physical activity or ate then it's a sign of hypoglycemic diabetes ussualy put with type 2. This means that your organism reacts to insulin too well or it produces more than it needs to.
Now if you meant that your sugar level is 6.2mmol/l then everything is just fine.

Yes they are... In school here we are thought to use only SI system units (meters, liters, grams and so on) so units that are rarely used (yards, miles, lbs) are a bit odd to me.

To me as well. Being from a 'metric system' area. But one would expect that terms a specific 'disease' be the same so as to have this part of it at least in one solid comprehensive form.
