Danger ahead
I found this article on a website that had some recent news on diabetes,Some of us may have come across it. If this is true we all must take action NOW by eating healthily and exercising regularly to prevent these predictions.
Let pass this information to all the people we care about- Friends, associate, Family, Love Ones.
"Forecasts of soaring rates of diabetes in the next two decades may be wildly underestimated, a new study suggests. Evidence from Canada indicates that the diabetes "time-bomb" may be a far worse global health threat than anyone imagined. The World Health Organization (WHO) predicts that the prevalence of diabetes among adults will reach 6.4% by 2030 - a 60% increase since 1995. But researchers found that in Ontario, the proportion of people suffering from the disease has already far outstripped that estimate. Between 1995 and 2005, diabetes prevalence in the Canadian province rose by 69%
In just five years from 2000 to 2005, diabetes rates in Ontario increased by 27%. In comparison, the WHO has predicted a 39% increase in prevalence between 2000 and 2030. The vast majority of these cases involve non-insulin dependent, or type 2 diabetes, which often goes hand-in-hand with obesity. One reason for the surge in Ontario could be that the region has attracted a lot of immigrant southern Asians, who are known to be prone to the condition. Despite this, the authors of the new research believe the new findings point to an alarming trend with potentially devastating consequences worldwide. The disease occurs when the body cannot properly utilize sugar to provide energy. This results from either a lack of insulin - the hormone that controls sugar use - or because the effects of insulin are no longer felt."
My personal observation: because of the desire to do what we like, how and when we want to do it. It is difficult to navigate all the health advice out there. But, it is advisable we watch our diet(eat because of it’s reaction and what it gives in the body, rather than the way we feel), exercise more and perhaps even lose some weight, smoking, fast food, processed foods and a sedentary lifestyle are roadblock to good health.
Best Regards

welcome to the forum, Perfect. What do you exactly want to say with this article?

Thank you, Blair. I mean that: this prediction is not a pleasant picture. And it has some justification that the chance of curbing the trend is narrow, if we do not take action now.
whowever, we need to make dietary and lifestyle changes.

Yes, but that was known to all for quite some time already, no? Even since heartdiseases etc were directly traced back to unhealthy life-styles....
I think it's all not that easy with all these 'goodies' readily available (and advertized) and those 'goodies' quite unhealthy.

It's hard to change eating habits as a precautionary measure. So many people don't even think about what they're eating until it directly affects their health. It's the whole "it could never happen to me" syndrome.

Yeah, it's resembles gambling a little actually. Gambling with one's health...

Welcome to the forums Perfect!
kclay i'd like to add a bit to you. some don't change habbits even AFTER it affects their health. last time i was in hospital for a regular check up i was stationed with a boy age 12 with obesity. he was placed on a diet that started in the hospital and i heard him say "I'd rather be like i am then stop eating what i do". He ate ~15 chocolate treats (don't know how to call them in lithuanian) when i could barely stuff 4 and he drank 4 bottles of chocolate milk in ~30 minutes.
As for the article: that's rather old news. Such predictions where in our diabetes newspaper a few years back. Plus it doesn't really affect people like me: we are already diabetics  (joke)

what you are saying is so true, Vytautas. But not only in that field. There are people that are being advised to change anything at all in their habits because it damages their health and they pretend it doesn't exist (the danger)

In my opinion the time this information was formally released looks pretty unimportant next to the value of sort information. Mostly when you compare it with the trend.
Brain, I totally agreed with you when you said:”... they pretend it doesn't exist (the danger)” this is ignorant, like in the case of “AIDS” upon the campaigns , things we hear and see about people living with it. Some individuals still don’t belief it‘s real.
Unfortunately, but truth, weather they belief its existence or not doesn’t affect its operation

perfect, i beg to differ. the time this information was know indeed IS important. nothing will come to be realised as soon as we say.
for instance i can say that we will have no drinking water by 2100 but if i say it today, this will be a concerning issue to most of the people only at (let's say theoreticly i am right) 2080 as the best option. people tend to let things that don't affect their lives directly oppose the threat. it's in our nation to negate the worst. so until there are enough people that have diabetes so that those that don't can't turn withouth bumping into one, there can be no talk about concern.
it's a must to try and warn people and it's part of the progress. that's why it's important when it was released: the proccess has started, and when there is little time left action indeed will be taken.
