Hi: I'm a new member. I hope that I can learn more about T2 Diabetes by joining all of you. I'm just two months from being diagnosed. I'm learning, but still in a bit of a fog. I do have a question, if I may... Does anyone know if hot weather affects BG levels. For the past two days it has been exceptionally hot where I live. My BG levels have been higher than their two month average (for me). They've been really good since I've been monitoring until now. Ay help with this issue would be grately appreciated.
Welcome to all the other newcomers and thank you!

    Hi Cheri,

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis (I'm Type 1 for 4-5 years now), but the good news is that Diabetes IS manageable and there's tons of great info (and people!) on this forum... be sure to nose around.

I'm not 100% sure on the weather thing, but I actually have the opposite problem and find that I go lower the hotter I am...

    Anyone else?

Hello Cheri and welcome to the forums,

you still have much to learn then but don't worry it's not that difficult. I'm a Type 1 for 12 years now (soon i'll start living the 13th year)

About the weather: yes it can influence the sugar levels (as i call them) but most of the time hot weather should decrease them of course i am not sure about type 2 so there might be a slight chance that the different medicine you take can be absorbed by the organism diferently if you are very hot but that's just a theory.
I would suggest consulting with you doctor.

The weather could have influence on your eating habits. Hot weather makes people not eat often enough, because it diminished hunger. Make sure to eat with regular intervals. Also do drink enough (water) - one tends to forget that with hot weather the body needs more fluids.

Welcome here, Cheri07 - and I hope you will this forum useful

Youp.. Forgot about that... Eat less icecream  (joke). The organism can react to inbalances in it (for egzample not enough fluids) and thus by doing so it just might change the way you get carbs and the ussage efficency.

Post edited by: Vytautas, at: 2007/07/14 23:19
