Looking for info to help son
Yesterday morning my 19 yr old sons long time 18 yr old GF was found unconscious in a pool of vomit. She was rushed to the hospital and her blood sugar lvls were over 400 ( not being knowledgable of diebetes i dont know what the normal lvls are) Before now she had not been known to have diabetes.
They are keeping her in the hospital for a week and not allowing her to eat for the next 48 hours then they are going to start teaching her diet and how to self inject insulin.
Im looking for resources to educate my son on how to deal and cope with his GF's diagnosis and to be "smart" in his decisions with her as he often takes her out to dinner and always used to get on her to eat although she was infrequently ever hungry. I dont want my son to jeapordize her health and to have a firm understanding of what is happening to her. At the moment he is terrified and thinking the worst.
Ty for reading my post and any help pointing me in the right Direction

I am not sure of those numbers but i think they are way too high. I always count it in milimols per liter (mmol/l) and then the normal ammount is from a (strange to me) minimum of 3.3 to a maximum of 5.5 normal and 7.3 arround 1.5 hour after eating. A diabetic should try to stay betwen 4 and 6 and higher than 10 is a hyperglycemia.
You can pick up good stuff in such forums as well in private sites. I have my own informational site with basic information on diabetes( http://www.freewebs.com/diabetas ). The best thing would be for your son to learn with his GF. My parrents for egzample seam to lack information so offten they try to tell me to do something that is wrong, but since i am educated enough in that matter i do things in one way and tell that i did in another way (the one that is more approprate according to my education). So i think such a thing could work as a plan B.
About eating. Don't worry, if she can take care of what she eats and count how much she eat (in calories or in carbohydrates (personaly i think the later is better)) she can eat as much as she likes. For egzample meat will have no effect like suggar, bread or other products with carbohydrates.
Ask if you need anything more.
