strange readings
I have been T2 for over three years now, doing well, but I have a problem I have never heard of before. I take glucophage in the AM and PM and my AIC is at 6.1. Not bad at all.
The problem is...I always have low reading after meals, if I am at say 115 before a meal, I can eat small serving potatoes, meat, veggies, coffee with sweetener, even dessert and I will have smaller numbers after the meal, at the one and two hour mark. I had to stop taking Prandin before meals because I was dropping into the low 60's in two hours time.
any one else ever have this problem.?

re:strange readings
Hmm. That's really strange. How long have you been like that?
Is it just something that started recently, or was it static since you were diagnosed with T2, and just started lately?
I would expect your readings will sky-rocket after such a meal, and not drop- but again, it's only me..

re:strange readings
Hi sistersandy,
Forgive me for being such an aunti :-)
Did you ask your doctor? Hearing opinions on forums and NG, and reading on the web is good, but it's not a replacement to talking to your doctor.

re:strange readings
I use Prandin too and it act within 2 hours after a meal so I take it when I start eating and not 30 minutes before the meal. My dosage is 4mg per meal but I find that it is often too much so I cut down depending on how many carbs I eat. My doctor asked me to drop 1mg when my 2 hours post prandial bg is under 126.
Since this is a very YMMV thing, I would suggest you talk to your Dr. about adjusting your dosage.

re:strange readings
I live in a very small rural community, and my doc was telling me to only do fasting levels, he says the rest are unecessary!. Most of the info i have picked up from Diabets websites, including the recognized ones.
The numbers have always been that way, My numbers seem to have no relation to what I eat.
When i went in last to see him, ( the doc) he said if i was a new patient with the numbers I have, he would say I was not diabetic.
i know better, when I went to him for diagnosis, I was having incredible thirst, unsatisfiable thirst, and a strange chemical odor to my urine. He never did give me a DX number, but I know those are two sure signs.
i am currently trying to lose weight, eating sensibly, and using my meter to keep an eye on what various food do to me. I dont even think there is an Endo in the area, and there are no good programs available for education and diet. '
when i went to the diabetic counselor at our local hospital, he gave me the meter, told me how to use it, and the dietician gave me a folder with a 1000 calorie diet. that was the extent of my help.

re:strange readings
mmm...
I really think you should see another doctor.
Treating diabetes carelessly is not something one can allow himself to do.
If you're not sure if there is another doctor in your area, try using this doctors' search engine.
Besides, if I were you, I would have write a review about this 'so called' doctor ...
The address is www.mdjunction.com

re:strange readings
I second joe. Time to see Endo.
Our chats here can't really replace a pro diagnosis.
Take a look at the the links I posted on http://www.diabetesfiles.com/about12.html#41 - some good stuff to ask your Endo.

re:strange readings
Thank you all for the replies. I searched the local phone book for endo's and found nothing. As I thought. I will do a search on the suggested links and see what I can find.
Took my before meal reading today
114
after consuming a hamburger, without bun, half a potato, about 1/2 cup baked beans, and 1/2 cup applesauce, home made with sugar, and a large chocolate brownie with frosting, and a large glass, at least 16 ounces, of 2% milk.
one hour after
108
2 hours after
113
This is typical
Found one in a town near me, must talk to my doctor about referral and find out if they are on the approved list for my insurance. I hate this stuff.

re:strange readings
I wish my numbers were that good after such a meal. Good luck with your Dr. or Endo.
